Much Ado About Rations.

Have i ever told you guys that i hate the SFI food that Army provides us? Not only does it taste horrible, it looks like something the cat regurgitated and it's expensive too.


At $5 a meal, i'd rather eat Mac all day and die of obesity.

What makes my experience with SFI food worse is that due to the nature of my work, we're not able to go to the cookhouse to have a proper meal (and by "proper", i mean eating off plates and bowls using forks and spoons while sitting at the table on a chair). Instead, we get out-rations, which is basically just the food da bao-ed in styrofoam boxes.

You might think, "Wah, shiok dun need to go to cookhouse for meals", but you're so wrong. I'd rather make the trip down anytime.

That's because at the cookhouse, you get syrup water. The closest i get to syrup water in my base is when the water cooler breaks down and has a funny taste.

Another thing is that the food served in the cookhouse is vastly different from the ones we get for out-ration. For example, if breakfast for that day was noodle soup, the out-rationed breakfast would be 4 slices of gardenia bread, kaya and hotdog. If on another day it was roti prata with curry, out-rationed breakfast would be a hotdog bun, a hotdog and kaya. Basically, "same same, but different" sums up the food we get through out-rationing.

Also, the food is always cooked and packed in styrofoam boxes a few hours before it is actually consumed. This meant that the food would be stewing in there, the heat trapped in the box, without any means of escape. You would think this would be good as it helps keep the food warm, but the vile and vomit inducing smells that escape the ration boxes when we open them are not of this earth.

The styrofoam boxes that serve as the package are also harmful to the environment because when styrofoam breaks, the greenhouse gas, methane, gets released into the atmosphere which then contribute to global warming.

I personally feel that the only thing keeping SFI out-rations away from eternal damnation is this.


Yes, this is the most wonderful cubular creation since the dice.

This is the most coveted night snack in the whole National Service.


THE PINEAPPLE TART!



My dad brought home a whole carton of it the other night, because of some hugeass event at the Esplanade (cannot say anymore, sensitive) where he was incharge of rations.

Goodness. My eyes bulged, mouth watered and heart ached for this wonderful snack. It's so wonderful that once, during the night shoot for range, we were supposed to get it for our night snack but the sergeants kept them all for themselves. Those sluts.

However, upon closer inspection of the carton, i realised that i was wrong!



Apparently, SFI didn't make these night snacks! Perhaps SFI should really be condemned...

p/s, i didn't intend for this entry to be entirely on SFI, but i guess i felt really strongly about it.
