Presenting, our Company shirt!

Front view.

Back view.

Yes, we know we look like the cook house uncles... But at least we stand out from the other companies, whose shirts were all either black or dark blue (that looked like black anyway). When we were walking to the stadium, we passed by the cook house and the uncles were all sitting there staring at us. They didn't join us though... What a pity.

And all of us hate the HUGE BLOCKY FONT. And the slogan.. URGH... Don't make me puke. I see the comma, where's the space after it? And better yet, where's the fullstop/exclaimation mark? the shirt could do much better without the words man...

But overall, it was quite nice la... Can wear to NDP... Or for CNY... The horse rox la...

Credits go to Fabian.

I actually had lots of things to blog about, but the feeling just left me sometime last night... So i'll just summarise then..

I passed my IPPT! For those non NS people (girls), that stands for Individual Physical Proficiency test... I did 7 chin-ups! =p Now to worry about my SOC and 24 click route march... Which is on Monday and Tuesday respectively... Bleah...

Oh, i added somemore pictures on the sidebar... Enjoy.

Urgh! So many movies to watch, so little time, so lack of money!

The movies i wanna watch, in no running order, Fantastic 4, Mr and Mrs Smith, Madagascar, Bewitched, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Monster-in-law, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA (omg, must watch) and War of the Worlds!

That's like a total of $180!!! I'm disgusted at the price hike... Nabeh!

I'm bored...

Thus the sidebars are filled with pictures! Don't be afraid to click on them, they're not vomit inducing...

But thats cos i fiddled with the photos on Photoshop... =P

Now i wanna go around taking photos already! Bleah...

The past week has been an emotional rollercoaster ride in camp... One of my bunkmates nearly got downgraded cos of some deficiency in his blood. It got quite emotional and people started crying. Gosh... I had to hold back my tears to console others. But he's back with us now as he ended up only getting OOT (out of training) for a couple of days. He will be downgraded after BMT i guess.

The next day, another of my closer friend got himself injured during SOC. We actually thought he broke his leg, but luckly it was only a fracture. He's at home resting now, and his status ends on 1st June. I really hope he can join us for our POP on the 8th, but chances are slim. Fabian ar... Dunno if you will read this, but we all miss you man...

Emotional stuff aside, next week is PACKED man... There's IPPT test, 16km route march, grenade throwing, OC evening, games day etc... Urgh... I want admin time!

Oh! Guess what? MP3 players are freaking BANNED! Argh! I survive on my mp3 player one ok! I need to stuff my head with music before i can sleep, if only to block out the irritating noises (stupid anime screaming) on the bed beside me. Now i have to bring in my discman... And CDs, something which i have stopped buying a year ago... Sob...

Ok, i should start on my homework (yes homework!!!) now... We're supposed to type an instructor's appraisal for the commanders in my platoon and company... Urgh... Bitching time! (no la, i very nice one)

I'm having a dilemma now...

I can't decide whether to go to NIE or to go to FASS@NUS (please refer to the previous entry).

Both has it's pros and cons.

Pros of NIE:
  1. Given a salary (ard $1115) as you study
  2. Ensured a stable job after studying (cos bonded for four years)

Cons of NIE:

  1. Cannot fail any exams or i must pay them back (or so i heard from friends)
  2. BONDED! (sounds so trapped)
  3. Job scope limited (Pri sch/Sec sch teacher)
  4. Not exactly my "passion"

V.S.

Pros of FASS:

  1. First year studying a general topic before choosing what course to take
  2. My "passion" (sort of)
  3. Interesting courses (psychology, sociology, geography, english)
  4. If i still wanna teach, i can go NIE afterwards
  5. FASS sounds way cooler than NIE

Cons of FASS:

  1. Not paid while studying
  2. Wide range of courses, might not be able to pick one that suits me
  3. Might have difficulties finding a job after graduating

Someone please advice me on what to do!!! Argh!!! *pulls hair*

On a lighter note,

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

I went to town yesterday with the intent of getting my mummy a present. And i did!

The gift is somewhere in this picture.

Colin and me spent like an entire hour ensuring the that present was perfect, but to no avail cos we were getting very pek chek. In the end, we got help from the shop assistant and she did it like in five mins...

The end result:

Nice right? Haha...

Apparently...

NUS wants me!!!

All this time i though i would be stuck with one choice, which was NIE, but i found out that NUS has offered me a place in the Faculty of Arts and Social Science! And at the same time, i just went for an interview for NTU's Sociology which seemed to me to have gone quite well...

I'm spoilt for choice!!! And my results are shit!

But SMU still doesn't want me...

They want Jean.

Reflections on IFC

On the first day of field camp, I thought I was totally shagged out after the 8km route march, but after building the tents immediately after the march, I felt like I could die! After setting up the camp, we had field rations for lunch. It tasted quite ok actually and I enjoyed the lunch quite a lot. After that, we had lectures and practices on drills all the way till dinner time and then we slacked about quite abit. We also learnt how to powder bath and I had my first powder bath in my life! I had abrasions at my groin area and when I powdered it, it was bloody painful! At night, it was super dark and I totally couldn’t get used to it. I had to use a torchlight to find stuff and basically to do everything with. Peeing was also another experience as the whole place stank of urine and I had to pee there. Hugging the rifle to sleep was a chore too as it was damn uncomfortable to sleep and I woke up sporadically during the night to check on my rifle.

When morning came, I woke up groggily and nearly forgot I was out in the wilderness. I had biscuits and fruit bars for breakfast and we had 5bx in long four! We then had lectures and practices before and after lunch and we were allowed to cook for dinner! I had two packets of maggi noodles and then I had to take a shit. It was so dark that I couldn’t even see the hole properly. I had to use the torchlight again. Flies were buzzing all around me and they were so irritating that I finished the job as fast as I could. Then it was off to powder bath and sleep again.

By this time, all the days were beginning to seem the same and I was beginning to look forward to the day this entire field camp ended. I remember route marching at night to the Malay school and sleeping in the classrooms. I also remember the tug-of-wars that we won and the ten packets of fresh rations that were given to us for lunch. Bathing at the school was a trip to heaven and I felt so clean and refreshed after that. Fast forward to Friday and we were digging our shell scrapes from morning till late noon. Digging the shell scrape was the most exhausting experience of my life. We had to fit our whole body and our field pack inside the hole and so we had to make the hole damn long! My hands still ache as I type this due to the digging. Sleeping in the shell scrape was another experience I couldn’t forget. I nearly emptied out a bottle of prickly heat into the hole before sleeping in it, but I still felt insects crawling all over me in the middle of the night.

On the last day of field camp, we had to go through BIC, which involved leopard crawling over a distance with live rounds being shot overhead. As I have heard many horrible stories about it and I have seen the scab on my friend’s elbows, I had an ominous feeling about this course. Soon, the time came for my detail to be dispatched into the course and I felt surprise at how easy it was. Imagine crawling on sand in the blistering heat and having to occasionally back crawl to avoid the barb wires at some locations. It sounds hard but it was actually a matter of perseverance. After completing the BIC, I felt an extreme sense of ecstasy as the field camp is coming to an end! YAY!

We marched back to company line to have lunch which was combat and to clean up our rifles and webbing and field packs. After that, we had to rush as we had only a very short time to bath and pack our stuff to go home. But no one minded at all because WE WERE GOING HOME!!!

Hey again... I was too tired to blog much yesterday... And i guess i'm too shag to blog now too...

So i shall just give a rough summary about field camp.

...

Oh crap... I just remembered that our PC told us to type out our reflections about field camp... Crud la... It's like homework lor.

Anyway, field camp was tiring but fun la... We learnt quite abit of stuff like the different drills when being contacted and also how to built tents... Another thing i learnt was how to tolerate my buddy. Urgh.

oh oh... Wanna know the meaning of "Care for soldiers"? We got to eat so much fresh rations that i didn't feel deprived of normal food at all! We had 1 fresh breakfast, 2 or 3 fresh lunches, 2 fresh dinners and two night snacks. And for dessert we had a pear, an apple, mango pudding with nata de coco and TAU HUAY!!! Thats like the most yummilicious dessert ever man.

And we got to stay at the malay school for 2 nights! That means no need to build tent and sleep with my buddy! Yay! And we got to bath once! Double yay!

I hate digging the shell scrape(is that how you spell it? I always fall asleep during lessons). My right hand feels sprained...

I'm tired and its late... Shall blog another time...
